
The Brazilian Institute of Research in Cancer (IBPC) is a national organization without profitable purposes responsible for developing the promotion, coordination and conduction of clinical trials in Brazil, in order to contribute with the development and evolution of the treatment of disease predominantly in the field of Oncology.
The clinical trials are conducted by IBPC from the previous design until the phases involving final report and publication. For that purpose, patients with cancer from the Public Health System (SUS - Sistema Único de Saúde) participate in trials as volunteers receiving direct and free of charges medical hospital care. IBPC also acts in strategic areas like formation and training of medical staff and supplying the appropriate basic infrastructure in the affiliated public health institutions.
IBPC is a Global Site Partner (GSP). Through its network of affiliated hospitals rated among the best ones in the country in the area of Oncology, it is extended the possibility of Brazil having access to international studies realized in conjunction with the best hospitals of the world in the treatment of cancer. This permits to bring for the Brazilian patients the most modern technologies in the treatment of the disease, turning the country an important global partner in the conduction of clinical researches.
Following the standard of scientific quality and international ethics of Good Clinical Practice (GCP) and according to the national and international laws that govern clinical researches, IBPC customizes and trains a national network of clinical research centers, while accompanying tasks with variable length and complexity. It means that any and all studies developed by the Institute involving human beings are previously approved by the Ethics Committee (EC) of the Institution and also by the National Committee for Ethics in Research (CONEP- Comissão Nacional de Ética em Pesquisa) of the Health Ministry. The test drugs are also submitted to previous control of the National Sanitary Surveillance Agency (ANVISA – Agência Nacional de Vigilância Sanitária)
